Last night, our PTA was honored with a Proclamation of Commendation by the Gloversville Enlarged School District Board of Education. Our President, Teresa Bushey and Vice President, Alicia Morici accepted on behalf of the unit.
From our President, Teresa Bushey:
"In December of 2023, when our now New York State PTA Secretary, who was our Northeastern Region PTA director at the time, came to visit a meeting she shared a story on why she PTAs that has always stuck with me. Jen Collazo spoke about volunteering; that you are not just there for your child, but for every child. Sometimes that might mean multi-tasking, in her case, she used the example of cutting box tops while she was in labor. There is a place in your heart, a genuine care, for the families in your community. You want to support the parents and the teachers, and you want to see every child thrive and be the best that they can be.
Aside from Alicia and I who were there to accept, there are many others who pour their spare time and energy into this unit. We multi-task, juggle, and yes it is time consuming work. But, we do it without the expectation of receiving any sort of thanks, so when our work does get recognized, especially by the school district that we serve, it truly does mean so much to us.
We look forward to continuing to build upward, brick by brick, alongside the district to be the best we can be in service of the children and families in our community."
